Safeguarding Statement
“Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. No single professional can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.” Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) DfE September 2016
We all have duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of our pupils. Staff, volunteers and visitors should act promptly if they witness any incident which makes them concerned.
We promise to:
- Develop a culture where Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
- Maintain an environment where school staff and volunteers feel safe, are encouraged to talk and are listened to when they have concerns about the safety and well-being of a child.
- Ensure children know that there are adults in the school whom they can approach if they are worried.
- Ensure that children, who have additional/unmet needs, are supported appropriately. This could include referral to Early Help services or specialist services if they are a child in need or have been/are at risk of being abused and neglected.
- Consider how children may be taught about safeguarding, including online safety, through teaching and learning opportunities, as part of providing a broad and balanced curriculum.
- Ensure that staff members working with children maintain an attitude of ‘it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned.
- Ensure that when concerned about the welfare of a child, staff members will always act in the interests of the child.
If you are ever concerned about the safety or well‐being of someone at our school please talk to the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy. The DSL is Natalie Watts (Headteacher). In the event of the DSL being absent, Karen Favis (Deputy Headteacher) and Clarissa Barber (Foundation Stage Manager) have been trained as DSL Deputies.
